This body of work has been inspired by sculpture from ancient times and how I see it connect visually to landscape of Central Victoria near where I live. When traveling in Europe I have been overwhelmed by the beauty of fragments dug up from their resting places of the past centuries. They tell of the rise and fall of civilisations, the violence that precedes change and the ideals of the culture they belonged to. The cycle of creation and destruction continues. In this time of confusion it is worthwhile knowing we have been here before. Placing them with rocks and the landscape reveal how time and the elements work to shape both what we now see and artefacts from the past. Perhaps there is hope, too, that in the end we will not be entirely forgotten.
